Zero-discharge wastewater project – 8t/h MVR evaporation crystallization system

The 8t/h system adopts a modular design and supports future expansion to 12t/h. Only one evaporation unit needs to be added in parallel, without the need for shutdown and modification, making it suitable for future capacity expansion needs.

Project Background

The client is a Japanese-owned electroplating factory in Thailand, generating approximately 200 tons of high-salt electroplating wastewater containing heavy metals (nickel, chromium, and copper) daily. To achieve the local environmental protection requirement of "zero emissions," the client introduced MVR (Mechanical Vapor Recompression) evaporation crystallization technology in 2018 for the advanced treatment and resource recovery of the high-salt wastewater after membrane concentration.

  • Core Process Route: Pretreatment → Membrane Concentration → MVR Forced Circulation Evaporation Crystallization → Centrifugal Separation → Condensate Reuse

  • Inlet Water Characteristics: TDS approximately 8-12%, containing heavy metals such as Ni²⁺, Cr⁶⁺, and Cu²⁺, pH 2-4, COD 500-800 mg/L

  • System Capacity: Evaporation rate 8 t/h, 24-hour continuous operation

  • Outlet Form: Crystallized salt (mixed heavy metal salt) automatically packaged; condensate reused in the production line rinsing process

System Highlights:

Energy Saving and Consumption Reduction: Utilizing MVR technology and steam recycling, energy consumption per ton of water is only 38-45 kWh, saving over 50% more energy than traditional triple-effect evaporation.

Corrosion-Resistant Materials: The heater and separator body are made of 2205 duplex steel + titanium alloy steam... Compressor impeller, resistant to chloride ion corrosion, designed lifespan of 10 years.

Intelligent control: PLC + touch screen fully automatic operation, supports remote monitoring; trained local Thai engineers can independently operate and maintain.

Resource recovery: Crystallized salt moisture content <5%, centrally treated by local hazardous waste center; heavy metal recovery rate >95%, reducing outsourced disposal costs by approximately 40%.

Operational performance (2018-2023 data)

  • Indicators: Actual results

  • System operation rate: >95%

  • Condensate reuse rate: 99.2%

  • Crystallized salt production: Approximately 2.8~3.2 tons/day, automatic packaging, no manual contact

  • Operating cost: Approximately 60~70 RMB per ton of water treated (including electricity, chemicals, and labor)

  • Environmental benefits: Achieves "zero discharge" of wastewater.
